Felix Gyi Memorial CIP® Scholarship

Felix GyiPRIM&R established the Felix Gyi Memorial CIP® Scholarship to assist IRB professionals interested in seeking the accomplishment that comes from earning the Certified IRB Professional (CIP®) credential. This initiative provides scholarships to cover the fees associated with both sitting for the exam and applying for recertification of the credential. This Scholarship is established in memory of Felix A. Khin-Maung-Gyi, a founder of the CIP credential and longtime leader in PRIM&R’s research ethics community, who passed away in 2014.

The CIP credential was developed to promote ethical research practices and programs by ensuring that professionals charged with IRB administration have demonstrated an advanced level of knowledge, understanding, and experience.  Since the credential was launched in 1999, more than 2,600 IRB professionals have earned the CIP, and IRB positions increasingly call for candidates who possess the credential.

The CIP credential:

  • Promotes the ethical conduct of research by strengthening the administration of human research protection programs (HRPPs).
  • Validates an individual’s professional experience and mastery of the body of knowledge determined by national experts to be essential to competent HRPP and IRB administrative practices.
  • Encourages personal growth and professional development.
  • Provides an expanded array of career advancement opportunities.
  • Strengthens the quality of HRPPs by certifying a cadre of committed and educated individuals.

The Felix Gyi Memorial CIP Scholarships are available to IRB professionals who:

  • Meet the criteria for sitting for the CIP exam and/or applying for recertification of the CIP credential and who are approved for the exam and recertification by the Council for Certification of IRB Professionals;
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance to cover the exam and/or recertification fees, as explained in the scholarship application materials; and
  • Complete the scholarship application, submitting it to PRIM&R according to the application guidelines.

The scholarship application can be found here. Completed applications should be submitted to certification@primr.org by February 3, 2017 for the spring 2017 testing period and by August 11, 2017 for the fall 2017 testing period.
